I love this basket. It's a mesh basket so you don't have to worry about things falling out when you're riding home. I ride a women's beach cruiser as my utility bike and I did not have problems with the baskets interfering with my legs when I'm riding.
My biggest complaint about this rack is the horrible clamps that come with it. I don't know what kind of idiot paired the clamps with the basket, but the clamps don't even fit the basket, let alone the bike rack it's supposed to mount to. Not only that, the clamps are cheaply made and can easily be bent.
I tried using the fact that the clamps are so soft to bend them into a decent shape so they're large enough to fit my bike rack, but they end up being way too short anyway. The basket also comes with two lower clamps. The caveat is the clamps are supposed to fit through the bottom of the basket, but good luck getting the 1/2-inch wide clamp through 1/4-inch wide holes.
I have my baskets tied to my rack with cable ties right now and so far it's not giving me a lot of problems. I will need to attempt to find clamps in Home Depot to fix this amazing issue that came purely out of bad design. -- Great basket, horrible mounting clamps
These are actually a bit smaller than I thought they would be. If you have a single paper grocery bag it will fit perfectly in the basket. So not big enough for a lot of other things like laptop bags (and not strong enough for something like that, either).
The mounting hardware was way too small for the rack I have, so I'm using tie cables for it instead. -- Good but could be better
I just bought my second after a trial run with the first. So I guess I'm convinced they are worth the money.
Since these baskets are sold as singles as opposed to some that are only available in sets of two - I bought just one in case I had problems.
What I liked:
The size is convenient for a grocery bag. It's a little bigger than it needs to be, which makes things a little easier.
The wire mesh doesn't let small things drop through, but still drains water.
It's pretty strong. I packed it full of liquid filled containers (water, tea, soda, etc... maybe 25 pounds... enough to tip the bike) then road about a mile. I hit normal bumps (nothing huge mind you) and the basket held up without any problem at all.
When folded-up flat, there is just enough room left to store my "U" lock, which I have found quite delightful.
What could be improved:
The mounting hardware was designed for a bike rack with smaller diameter framing than I have (mine frame is 3/8" diameter). It looks like it is designed for 1/8" diameter frames, but might work on 1/4" (just guessing here.)
I had to mount the rack a little further back (about 2") to clear my heel when peddling. Not a huge problem but this puts the rack behind my rear light and so obstructs it slightly. It also puts the load on the rack off center where it is designed to support a load. Lastly, it detracts from the aesthetics of the bike more than it must.
The instructions for mounting the rack should be ignored. They will waste time, and provide no real help. -- I'll take another please.
When open, this bike basket protrudes and can hit objects. Must constantly be aware of this when unfolded. -- protrusion alert
