I really like these basket (I have 2), they can be attached to any bike rack although you may need some extra zip locks and/or wires to secure - it was a bit fiddly and the brackets included are of little use. One basket fits 2 one gallon of milk bottles or is about the size of brown paper bag from supermarket. I use a bungee cord to make sure shopping would not come out when hitting a pothole. Opening and folding the baskets is a bit of an art, while pushing the bottom down, which has a tight fit to make it secure, I got my finger trapped and have a nice bruise to show for it. All in all, nice sturdy basket which I believe will last but not the easiest to attach and bit tricky to open and close. If you are a little bit handy: go for it. -- Great product, just watch your fingers!
I really like these baskets. They did require some time to get them installed properly but I think they'll work quite well for me. I put one basket on each side of my existing rear rack and they seem very sturdy. Your bag of hardware includes two clamps, two screws, and one white plastic zip tie. I added my own plastic ties and one extra clamp (described below) just for my own peace of mind. Make sure you set the baskets far enough back so that your feet have clearance while pedaling.
For anyone who has concerns about installing them with the included hardware, this was how I did it:
The brackets that came with my baskets actually worked pretty well with my existing rear rack. But in preparation I purchased 4 "Murray #4 Adjustable Clamps" from a local home improvement chain store. I ended up using one of these clamps, in conjunction with the two clamps that were included, for each basket just as a precaution. I also picked up some Cables to Go 43036 Cable Ties - 100 Pack (Black) to secure the sides of the basket so that it wouldn't wobble. Surprisingly my baskets came with one white plastic tie in the bag of hardware they include for each basket. Still, I'm glad I had the extra ties to make it extra-secure and the black color makes them stand out less. I used maybe half a dozen black ties for each basket. Finally, I got a roll of black velcro from the home improvement store just in case the clasps weren't good enough to keep the basket shut during a ride. The clasps seem OK to me but it has come undone one time (I'm not sure if this was my error--hitting it with my foot, or not fastening it properly). I'll definitely be using the velcro just to be safe. -- Good Baskets (Read for Installation Tips)
Got two for my bike. The mounting hardware is COMPLETELY USELESS. After you order go to Lowes and spend $2 on a bag of black zip ties and use them. If you use zip ties, make sure they are UV rated (they will say something like 'indoor/outdoor use') otherwise the zip ties will fail due to UV rays making the plastic brittle and crumble... losing your baskets and whatever is in them).
The only other drawback is that the powder coat seems to have been applied after the latches were installed. I had to move the latches about 1/4 inch so they would not hit a vertical wire and underneath was bare metal. So its gonna rust if it gets wet. I plan to touch it up with paint but for $8 a basket thats a small amount of work compared to the others listing for $20+ each.
Folding/unfolding is easy, and the latch at the top holds well. They look nice when mounted.
Make sure you mount them far enough back on your rack so your heel does not hit them.
If they came with a decent mount they would be a very good value... but since they don't I give them a 4 stars instead of a 5. Mounts are the most common issue for baskets... you think they would upgrade and make everyone happy. -- Good value in a basket.
Attaching the baskets were a snap because I had my neighbor do it. The hardware that came with the baskets is useless, just throw it away and get a few clamps. Amazon has the best price for these baskets, they sell for a lot more everywhere else. The folding feature is perfect for me because I store my bike on my porch and with the baskets folded, it's easy to get through the door. -- Love these baskets
As far as I can tell, this is the same basket as the Wald 582. But, for significantly less money.
Nothing more to report. Somewhat cheap quality. One of the clips that the wire frame pivots in wasn't formed well around the wire frame. Had to use some pliers to fix it.
I ordered two frames. One arrived with a broken weld. -- Same basket as Wald, for much less
